American middle blocker Meegan Hart attributed her seamless transition to her teammates following Nxled’s impressive five-set win over Galeries Tower to open the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference.
Hart, a standout from D1 school University of Colorado, demonstrated her dominance above the net in the Chameleons’ hard-fought 25-19, 22-25, 25-18, 25-27, 15-12 triumph over the Highrisers at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City on Tuesday.
“I think I’m fitting in really well; the girls have been super supportive, helping me out with communication, calls, and just the little things,” said Hart during the post-game press conference.
“It hasn’t been too hard, it happened fast, but I’m grateful for my teammates and coaches for their support,” she added.
The 6-foot-2 former Colorado University standout contributed seven of Nxled’s 18 blocks in the contest, finishing with a game-high 19 points, including 12 from attacks, in her PVL debut.
Hart acknowledged that the pace in the PVL is faster than what she is accustomed to, but she credited her teammates and coaches for helping her adjust swiftly.
“I would say it’s a lot faster than what I’m used to, really scrappy, plays are a bit longer. So I think it’s just adjusting to the pace, but overall, it’s been good,” said Hart, who last played for Olympiada Neapolis VB in Cyprus.
“It’s been a fast transition, but again, I’ve been welcomed with open arms by my teammates and the coaching staff,” she added.
The former First Team All-Pac 12 member received significant contributions from the local players, with May Luna scoring 17 points off the bench and Chiara Permentilla providing 14 points from seven attacks, five blocks, and two aces.
“Yeah, I’m happy with the win. We went out there trusting the training the girls have had over the past few months, and just playing with confidence, which is the most important thing, along with communication,” said Hart.
“I’m new, but I think we did a great job going out there and playing our game, focusing on our side. Credit to the other team, they’re great competitors. It was a lot of fun.”
Hart expressed her hope to maintain her momentum and assist the Chameleons, who finished eighth in the season-opening tournament, in securing more victories this conference.
“It was great; getting a win is always great, and I feel really welcomed in the Philippines. The experience so far has been awesome, and I’m excited to be here with the team and win more games,” said Hart.
