Marcio Lassiter gave a kiss to the heavens after nailing a three early in San Miguel’s PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup rematch with Ginebra on Sunday night, for it was all that he needed to rewrite the league’s history books.
That shot – a pull-up in transition against Maverick Ahanmisi at the 7:10-mark of the first quarter – has made him the PBA’s new all-time leader in career threes made.
He surpassed the great Jimmy Alapag who has 1,250 to his name.

Alapag, the 2011 MVP, broke the record then previously owned by Allan Caidic – coincidentally against the Kings, too.
His milestone came in Game 2 of the 2016 Governors’ Cup Finals back on October 9, 2016, when he was with Meralco.
Lassiter finished the opening period with a total of four triples to give himself 1,251 career treys – and counting – and help the Beermen to a 37-13 lead.
Safe to say, he wanted to accomplish as much right from the get-go. He scored the team’s first points from the outside, using the screen of June Mar Fajardo to get free from Scottie Thompson for a clear look at the basket.
Lassiter then made the second to tie Alapag at the 7:41-mark, as he was found by CJ Perez wide open on the right corner for an easy one.
Then came the record-breaking shot, after which he was showered with cheers and adoration by the crowd inside the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
The 13-year veteran accomplished the milestone very efficiently, too. He reached the mark in only 538 games, according to PBA chief statistician Fidel Mangonon III.
To put that in perspective, Alapag did it in 601 games.
