BACARRA, ILOCOS NORTE — Maddie Madayag has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear on her left knee, Choco Mucho confirmed on Friday afternoon.
Madayag landed badly on her right foot after an attack attempt in the fourth set of Choco Mucho’s battle for bronze against Petro Gazz last Wednesday.
The 23-year-old middle blocker immediately fell down to the Taraflex and clutched her left knee.
Madayag was carried off the court through a wheelchair. She was seen wearing a knee brace on her way to Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Batac.
Choco Mucho fell in four sets against Petro Gazz, 21-25, 15-25, 25-22, 20-25, in the series opener.
The Flying Titans have played a total of seven games in eight days due to the compressed PVL schedule, as requested by the local government of Ilocos Norte.
“We are all praying for your speedy recovery from your ACL injury. Nothing can stop the heart of a true Titan!” read the team’s statement.
Back in 2016, Madayag suffered an ACL tear on her right knee during practice. She missed the remainder of the UAAP Season 78.
Recovery time for this type of injury takes eight to 12 months.
Choco Mucho ended the tournament in fourth place.
