Far Eastern University made swift work of Adamson University, 25-14, 25-21, 25-21, to remain unbeaten in the UAAP Season 88 Collegiate Men’s Volleyball Tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday.
It was once again a balanced effort for the Tamaraws, with four players scoring in double figures as they improved to a 4-0 record.
For FEU head coach Eddieson Orcullo, the team is taking things one step at a time.
“‘Yung tournament talagang malayo pa pero hindi kami titigil para mas lalong maabot namin ‘yung gusto naming mangyari,” said Orcullo.
The Soaring Falcons refused to fold easily in the third set.
With FEU ahead, 22-15, a string of errors allowed Adamson to claw back, capped by a Richard Besorio ace that trimmed the deficit to just two, 20-22.
However, Besorio committed a service error that halted Adamson’s momentum. The Tamaraws then won a successful ball-in, ball-out challenge on Ricardo Obeda’s service attempt — initially ruled in — after a review overturned the call, sealing the victory in one hour and 16 minutes.
Ariel Cacao dished out 20 excellent sets, orchestrating the offense for four double-digit scorers, led by Amet Bituin’s 13 points built on 10 spikes and three blocks.
“Kapag kasi binibigyan po ako ng chance, hindi ko po talaga sinasayang kasi gusto ko pong matulungan ‘yung team na makuha namin ‘yung goal at the same time na mapatunayan ko sa sarili ko na deserve ko na nandito sa puwesto na ito,” said Bituin.
Dryx Saavedra added 12 points, while Doula Ndongala contributed 10.
Lirick Mendoza anchored FEU’s defense with a game-high seven blocks, accounting for nearly half of the Tamaraws’ 16 total blocks — a decisive edge as the Soaring Falcons failed to record a single block.
FEU will stake its perfect record on Wednesday against Ateneo de Manila University at the Big Dome.
Besorio paced the Falcons, who dropped to 1-3, with eight points, followed by Jims Ducusin with seven.
