Lou Amundson is a 10-year NBA veteran. During his stint in the world’s premier basketball organization, he played for nine teams, compiling norms of 3.7 points and 3.6 rebounds. His career-best averages were 6.0 points and 6.0 rebounds back in 2014-15.
In his debut in the PBA, the six-foot-nine forward/center put up the usual import numbers of 19 points and 18 rebounds. But being the focal point of an offense is something to new to Amundson, especially after having been known more as a role player in the States.
“It’s a bit of an adjustment to me. I’m not used on playing that role,” the 32-year-old shared moments after the Katropa’s 94-89 loss to the Meralco Bolts.
“But I just try to play hard and give the team what I can.”
Despite posting those numbers, Amundson lamented the way he played, saying that he just could not find a way to regain his rhythm on offense — ending the night shooting just 8-for-19 from the field while committing four turnovers and five fouls.
“Just came out, felt good, and kind of got out of my rhythm with the officiating.
“Got in some early foul trouble, [and] sat most of the first half. In the second half, I felt I couldn’t really find my rhythm again,” the native of Ventura, California admitted.
With just a day’s break for TNT before they take on the Phoenix Fuel Masters, the 2007 NBA D-League rookie of the year shared that he now knows the adjustments he will make to fit in the Philippine-style of basketball.
“I’ll adjust to the officiating and the pace of the game here and the rhythm of the game here. It’s a lot different than what I’m used to playing in the NBA so I think having this experience.
“Seeing how the game goes, how it’s officiated, It will better prepare me for Sunday,” said Amundson.
