Kianna Dy eyes sustained dominance after second title

Coinciding with PLDT’s rise to the summit of Philippine volleyball was the long-awaited comeback of Kianna Dy.

Dy and the High Speed Hitters — now two-time champions — share a common goal: to stay at the top for as long as possible.

The 5-foot-10 opposite hitter emphasized on Sunday night, after PLDT’s 21-25, 31-29, 25-22, 25-18 triumph over Kobe Shinwa University to claim the 2025 PVL Invitational championship, that the work does not end here.

This latest crown, paired with their historic PVL On Tour title, has only made PLDT hungrier for more success.

“The team has been through so much ‘almosts’ and it just feels so good to finally get two championships,” said Dy, who endured an 18-month layoff due to a knee injury before finally returning in January this year.

“I’m super confident with this team, everyone improved, everyone’s improving, we’re finally complete and yeah tuloy-tuloy lang,” she continued.

While their previous heartbreaks heavily relied on Savi Davison’s offense, the rest of the High Speed Hitters rose to the occasion this time. Together, the team fueled their incredible 13-game winning streak that included an eight-game sweep of the On Tour and a five-game sweep of the Invitationals.

Davison still led PLDT in the gold medal match against the Japanese guests with 20 points, but this time she had plenty of support — just as they had throughout their campaign.

Dy contributed 17 points built on 11 spikes, four blocks, and two aces, while rookie Alleiah Malaluan delivered 15 points. Mika Reyes, the Finals MVP of the On Tour, also added 12 points in the victory.

Looking ahead, Dy and her teammates feel determined not to stop at two titles. Their focus is already shifting to the Reinforced Conference, where the addition of imports changes the dynamic of the game.

“Tuloy tuloy lang kami. Next conference is a different conference, may imports na so we have to work hard again for that,” said Dy.
