PAGADIAN, ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR — Jun Daanoy has been lights out for BYB Kapatagan in the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup Mindanao Challenge.
And he just hopes this will be the rebirth his basketball career needs.
The 32-year-old wingman played college ball for one year at the Philippine Merchant Marine School in Las Piñas before going back home to Cagayan de Oro (CDO).
There, he played for STI College-CDO until 2014.
“Naglaro ako sa STI sa amin sa Cagayan de Oro hanggang 2014 tapos noon, wala na, nagtrabaho na ako,” said Daanoy, who works for the Urban Search and Rescue unit of CDO.
Daanoy has been the Buffalos go-to guy, averaging a team-best 13.5 points to go with 6.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.6 steals, and 0.9 blocks in eight games.
Those efforts have led Kapatagan to a 5-3 win-loss card, tied with Roxas for the second seed.
And head coach Jaime Rivera has nothing but praise for Daanoy, noting how good the player is and having this Chooks-to-Go-backed league exposure is all he needs.
Kumpleto ‘yung bata may opensa at depensa.”
Now that Daanoy has been turning heads for his play, his dream of playing basketball for a living comes alive anew.
Especially since his wife has been pushing him also to pursue his life-long dream.
