Jeremiah Gray has encountered another significant setback in his budding career.
The 26-year-old winger has received a devastating diagnosis of a ‘triple tear,’ resulting from injuries to his anterior cruciate (ACL), medial collateral (MCL), and posterior cruciate (PCL) ligaments. Gray is scheduled to undergo surgery later this month.
Initially, the diagnosis indicated that Gray had dislocated his right knee. However, a comprehensive MRI could not be conducted due to the accompanying swelling.
Last week, a piece of unfortunate news reached both Gray and Ginebra.
In the PBA on Tour’s final match against the NLEX Road Warriors on July 30, Gray attempted a fastbreak layup a mere 22 seconds into the third quarter.
As he approached the basket, Gray was unable to take off despite minimal contact with his defender.
The 6-foot-5 winger, who was the second overall pick in the 2022 PBA Draft, had showcased a promising preseason performance, averaging 14.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.0 steal per game.
This marks Gray’s second encounter with an ACL injury.
On November 27, 2021, he suffered a left ACL tear during a PBA 3×3 game.
Consequently, he missed the entirety of the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup.
Gray eventually finished the season, playing a total of 44 games while being named as an All-Star.
In this instance, the recovery process is expected to be more time-consuming, as such injuries typically necessitate 10 to 12 months for full recuperation.
