Setter Jasmine Nabor broke her silence and shared her story about what led to her leaving the National University Lady Bulldogs program.
Speaking to reporters, Nabor confessed her side after NU head coach Babes Castillo went on the record yesterday to say that he was “doubtful, but hoping” that Nabor and Jorelle Singh would return to the Lady Bulldogs.
The 5-foot-8 playmaker shared a contrasting statement, noting that they have been removed from National U’s lineup. They had only decided that they were no longer going to play out their collegiate playing eligibility after finding out that they were no longer part of the team.
Nabor narrated the timeline of the Lady Bulldogs, who immediately began training days after their UAAP Season 80 campaign ended. Both Nabor and Singh had signed with PVL club PayMaya by then.
When Nabor and Singh were being summoned to train with NU, the pair saw it as a conflict of interest, since NU were playing under Bali Pure in the same PVL conference and were holding simultaneous practices.
Nabor then contacted NU team manager Bing Si Diet and informed him that she would only like to start training with the Lady Bulldogs once they start preparing for Season 81 or after the PVL conference.
“‘Yung about sa doubtful but hoping, actually kami dapat ang nagsasabi ‘nun eh. Kasi kami ang tinanggal. Hindi kami umalis.
“‘Yung sinasabi niyang (Castillo) hindi kami nagte-training, nag-text ako kay manager (Bing Si Diet) non. Sinabi ko na, ‘wag muna kami mag-training if yung purpose lang ng training is for Bali Pure lang,” Nabor narrated. “Sinabi ko na magte-training kami kung for NU lang not for Bali Pure. Kasi may PVL eh. Magkalaban kami, PayMaya yung team namin then sila Balipure. So anong gagawin namin doon?
“Then nagulat nalang kami during the season na tinanggal na pala kami. Hindi man lang kami ininform. Nung nalaman namin yun, kinausap namin agad si manager. Nakipag-usap kami ng 7:30 am around Tomas para lang sabihin namin na gusto pa namin maglaro. Kaya lang naman kami nakapagsalita na hindi na kami maglalaro kasi nalaman namin na tanggal na pala kami,” she furthered.
Now, Nabor plans to continue her studies at National U, dispelling rumors of a possible transfer as she is currently enrolled in the Jhocson-based university.
“So ang plano namin is mag aral nalang kami. Kasi may scholarship parin kami kahit ‘di na kami maglalaro sa NU. Kasi hindi naman ang manager ang magbabayad ng scholarship, NU na mismo,” Nabor pointed out.
The Tarlac native also wanted to deny rumors that current PayMaya head coach and former National Univeristy mentor Roger Gorayeb had anything to do with her decision.
“‘Yung sinasabi nilang dahil kay coach Roger kaya kami hindi maglalaro? Maling-mali sila don. Hindi kami na-brainwash kasi nag-start lang naman na hindi na kami siguradong maglalaro kami kasi nalaman nga namin na tanggal na kami,” she added.
“Wala kaming balak lumipat. Dito kami magtatapos kahit anong mangyari. Player man kami or hindi.”
