Homegrown Australia’s James Nacua commits to La Salle

De La Salle University has locked another shooter to its ranks.

Gilas Youth standout James Nacua has committed to La Salle.

He was welcomed by team management and head coach Topex Robinson to the school on Wednesday.

“Very happy to finally be in the green and white. I feel at home and am in a program where I believe I can excel under the leadership of Coach Topex,” said Nacua.

“Having fellow Earl Abadam there, another Homegrown alum whom I’ve played with since we were 13 years old, and my relationship with Luis Pablo, probably made it a lot easier.”

Nacua, 19, is a 6-foot-4 winger who previously suited up for San Beda-Rizal.

He finished his secondary studies at Westfields Sports High School.

Nacua also suited up for the Philippines during the FIBA U18 Asian Championship 2022.

There, he averaged 6.3 points on 42-percent shooting from deep, 2.8 assists, and 1.3 rebounds per game.

“In basketball, you can never have enough shooters. James embodies that perfectly,” said Robinson.

“His presence on our team will undoubtedly enhance our ability to spread the floor and create scoring opportunities. We’re thrilled to welcome him aboard.”

Nacua will still play for Homegrown Australia in the 2024 Smart NBTC National Finals.

“Overall, we are thrilled for James and his family, and we are grateful to Coach Topex and La Salle for trusting in the Homegrown program,” said Homegrown Australia basketball director Rey Racuyal.
