There will be another Filipina in the upcoming Korean Volleyball League Women’s division aside from MJ Phillips of Gwangju AI Peppers.
Iris Tolenada, the 5-foot-9 F2 Logistics setter, has joined GS Caltex Seoul Kixx as their Asian quota import.
The team announced on Friday that Tolenada has replaced Soraya Phomla, also a setter from Thailand, as their import.
“Winning various individual awards in his own leagues, whose ability to manage matches based on agility and agility is an advantage. Playing passionately fits well with GS Caltex’s team style and is looking forward to a great performance in GS Caltex Setergin in the future!” read the team’s Instagram post.
Tolenada was one of the six Filipino athletes who tried their luck in the league’s first-ever asian quota draft but was not able to get drafted by the seven squads.
Only Phillips was drafted, getting picked by the Peppers fifth overall.
At sixth, GS Caltex originally selected Medi Yoku, an outside hitter out of Indonesia but just last month, announced that Phomla will replace the former.
The team shared that Tolenada will arrive in August.
Although in the Cargo Movers’ roster for the ongoing Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference, Tolenada has yet to suit up in their eight games so far.
Tolenada will be the second Filipino to represent Seoul after Juan Gomez de Liano (SK Knights).
