Archers Stance: Malaluan, Soreño, Tolentino, Ordiales bow out for La Salle

De La Salle University will say goodbye to four seniors — Alleiah Malaluan, Jyne Soreño, Julyana Tolentino, and Jessa Ordiales — following the Lady Spikers’ runner-up finish in the UAAP Season 87 Women’s Volleyball Tournament Finals held Wednesday evening at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The four seniors were at the emotional center of the team’s iconic season-ending Archer’s stance — a symbol of pride, tradition, and unity — marking a poignant farewell on center court for the quartet.

The trio of Malaluan, Soreño, and Tolentino concludes their collegiate careers after four years of dedicated service to the Green and White. Their tenure yielded one championship in Season 85, runner-up finishes in Seasons 84 and 87, and a bronze medal in Season 86.

Malaluan served as a steady offensive contributor, complementing the firepower of Season 87 Second Best Outside Hitter Angel Canino and Best Opposite Hitter Shevana Laput. She wrapped up her final season with 111 total points, built on 89 attacks, 11 blocks, and 11 service aces.

Soreño, in her final year, saw limited playing time due to La Salle’s deep roster of wing spikers, which included Canino, Laput, and Malaluan. Still, she managed to tally 35 points off 30 attacks, three aces, and two blocks.

More importantly, she provided veteran leadership to La Salle’s rising stars such as Mikole Reyes, Shane Reterta, and Ela Raagas.

Tolentino concluded her collegiate journey with 105 position points as the Lady Spikers’ backup setter.

While her on-court contributions were modest, her mentorship proved invaluable to rookie setter Mikole Reyes, who navigated a challenging debut season as La Salle’s starting playmaker.

Under the tutelage of Tolentino and head coach Ramil de Jesus, Reyes emerged as the league’s fourth-best setter with an average of 4.29 excellent sets per frame.

Meanwhile, Ordiales, a middle blocker from National University-Nazareth School, exits the program after one year of limited action in Season 87 — a notable step up after narrowly missing out on the Season 86 lineup.

All four graduating Lady Spikers are expected to declare for the 2025 Premier Volleyball League Draft, with applications closing on Friday, May 23.
