Farm Fresh put the clamps on the red-hot Capital1, snapping its three-game winning streak in straight sets, 25-17, 25-23, 25-20, to keep its quarterfinals hopes alive in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference, Thursday at the Philsports Arena.
The Foxies bounced back and put an end to their two-game losing skid to improve its win-loss record to 3-4 after the one-hour, 35-minute victory over the Solar Spikers.
“We had two straight losses but our level of play is good and is there. I just trust our players and we’ll make the necessary adjustments when we train for our next game (versus Akari),” said Japanese head coach Shota Sato through an interpreter.
Colombian reinforcement Yeny Murillo posted a team-high 15 points on 13 attacks and two aces to go along with six excellent receptions in the win, while Trisha Tubu backstopped her with 12 points, all on attacks.
Caitlyn Viray and Rizza Cruz each had nine markers, with the former also contributing nine excellent digs.
Team captain and setter Louie Romero delivered 16 excellent sets, while libero Janel Delerio had an impressive defensive outing with 22 excellent digs and nine excellent receptions for the Foxies.
Farm Fresh aims to build on this win when they face off against the league-leading Akari on Tuesday, 5:00 p.m. at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.
On the other hand, Capital1 slid to 4-3 after an impressive stretch that saw them take down Choco Mucho, ZUS Coffee, and Nxled, respectively.
Marina Tushova, who was coming off a historic 49-point explosion last Saturday, finished with 18 points, 17 excellent receptions, and seven excellent digs in the loss.
Rookie opposite spiker Leila Cruz had her best outing yet with 10 points, while skipper Iris Tolenada had 17 excellent sets to go along with seven points.
Capital1 will try to punch its quarterfinals ticket also on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.
