After spending much of the 2024–25 Premier Volleyball League season shorthanded, Cignal continues to strengthen its roster with the addition of outside hitter Heather Guino-o and middle blocker Ethan Arce.
The HD Spikers made the announcement on Monday afternoon, just four days after officially signing Tine Tiamzon, who is set to return to PVL action after a two-year hiatus.
“Team Awesome is thrilled to welcome Heather Guino-o, a reliable scorer and steady presence on the wing, as she’s ready to make a significant impact with the Cignal HD Spikers in the next conference,” the team said in a Facebook post.
“From one red squad to another, Ethan Arce brings her strength, grit, and passion to the Cignal HD Spikers as we set our sights even higher next conference,” they added in a separate post.
Guino-o and Arce are coming off two-season stints with Capital1 and Petro Gazz, respectively.
The former Far Eastern University standout showed flashes of her old form with the Solar Spikers, especially during the strong start of the 2024–25 All-Filipino Conference. However, her playing time dwindled as the tournament progressed.
Meanwhile, Arce, a product of University of the Philippines, had difficulty cracking the rotation in Petro Gazz’s deep middle blocker lineup. She is the second middle blocker released by the Angels after KC Galdones.
Now joining a Cignal squad searching for added firepower following the sudden departures of team captain Ces Molina and veteran middle blocker Riri Meneses, both Guino-o and Arce are poised to take on bigger roles.
They also reunite with their former college coach, Shaq delos Santos, and have already begun training with the team in preparation for the upcoming PVL conference.
The 27-year-old Guino-o spent her early UAAP years with the FEU Lady Tamaraws under Delos Santos. Meanwhile, the 24-year-old Arce played a season for him during his brief stint with the UP Fighting Maroons.
