Tine Tiamzon comes out of retirement, joins Cignal

Tine Tiamzon is coming out of retirement to suit up for Cignal in the 2025 Premier Volleyball League season.

Tiamzon retired at just 25 years old following the unexpected disbandment of F2 Logistics at the end of the 2023 Second All-Filipino Conference. Now, after a two-year hiatus, she is poised to make her comeback with the HD Spikers.

The three-time UAAP champion described her return as unexpected and explained that one of the key reasons for her decision to resume her professional volleyball career was to avoid the regret of not fully realizing her potential.

“Actually, playing in the PVL again was not in my bingo card for 2025. I did not know that I would still be given a chance to play pro again, but it has been given to me, so I took it. I realized that I won’t be as young as I am right now,” Tiamzon said in a statement provided by Cignal.

“I feel like when I last left the league, I hadn’t really reached my full potential. At this age, I think that I still have a chance to do so, and I don’t want to look back at my volleyball career and be filled with questions of ‘what ifs,” she added.

“It started when I was approached by ate Dawn [Catindig] when I last visited in January. From there, I have been in communication with coach Shaq [delos Santos] and coach Yani [Fernandez],” said the former La Salle standout.

Tiamzon expressed her determination to make the most of this rare opportunity, vowing to repay the HD Spikers’ trust in her through hard work and commitment on the court.

“They were willing to take me on, despite being away from professional volleyball for two years. I am very grateful that they have full trust in me as I do in them,” said Tiamzon.

“I have always seen Cignal as a very competitive team and I think at this point as well, they are somewhat rebuilding which is aligned to me starting anew with my career,” she added.

Tiamzon’s arrival could not have come at a better time for Cignal, who recently lost up-and-coming opposite spiker Jovelyn Fernandez, along with the mid-season exits of veterans Ces Molina and Riri Meneses during the 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference.

The 5-foot-9 outside spiker will join Vanie Gandler, rising star Ishie Lalongisip, and Judith Abil in the wing rotation.
