Frankie Lim will miss NLEX’s game against Rain or Shine on Friday.
And it’s because of an incident that transpired seven years ago.
Back on June 27, 2015, Lim was still coaching Ginebra. In their quarterfinal clash against Alaska, the fiery mentor hit Calvin Abueva in their quarterfinals clash against Alaska.
Ginebra lost the game, 108-114.
Seven years later, he will serve the suspension.
Still, the decorated 62-year-old mentor, who has mellowed down, is just glad to be back.
“It’s good na nakabalik ako. Excited ako. First time ko sa practice kanina. Kanina, walkthrough, walkthrough lang. Looking good [so far],” he said in a small gathering held at Gloria Maris in Greenhills.
Lim will also miss NLEX’s game against Meralco and will only make his debut on September 30 when the Road Warriors take on the Blackwater Bossing so that he can better see the team from afar first before going into battle.
Calling the shots in the Road Warriors’ first two games of the season will be Adonis Tierra and Borgy Hermida.
Lim will not make things complicated so far for NLEX as he will run a run-and-gun system for his first conference.
NLEX, on the other hand, is just glad to have a veteran head coach like Lim leading the team.
“Of course, we are very excited to work with Coach Frankie. We are looking forward to his leadership and we look forward to working with him,” said NLEX Vice President in Communication and Stakeholder Management Donna Faylona-Marcelo.
“As our head coach, he has the full support of everyone in our company.”
The first order of business for Lim though is to make some changes to the team.
“We are looking to find the best players to add to our team. It’s not just centers or guards but what we are looking for are the best players.“
