Having been in the Netherlands over the last two years, Frank House is used to playing alongside three more imports.
It has overwhelmed the 25-year-old forward, though, being the one and only reinforcement of the Alaska Aces.
House visibly struggled on the court when made his PBA debut in the 2019 Governors’ Cup on Friday evening. He shot just 3-of-13 from the field, finishing with eight points along with 11 rebounds, six assists, and two blocks in nearly 38 minutes of play.
Worse, Meralco spoiled his debut as the Milkmen lost badly, 75-101. They also absorbed their fourth loss in as many games.
“Being the only import out there, I’m not used to that.
“We usually got three or four,” said House, whom the Aces brought in as a replacement for Justin Watts, who has a strained calf.
Coach Jeff Cariaso understands House’s struggle, since he’s only been in the country for four days.
“It’s a little bit too early to kinda judge him. It’s really difficult — he’s been here [just] four days,” said the former PBA star. “But I think he’s still the guy that we need. He is that big presence.
“So he just has to understand where to pick his spots. Baka nagulat siya sa style of play here a little bit, and the expectations of being an import. I think that’s a little bit of a factor.”
House, of course, vows to adjust to everything as necessary. But he has to pick things up quickly, since the Aces will play again this Sunday against defending champions Magnolia Hotshots.
“I gotta come out with more intensity, take more ownership, be more aggressive as far as, like… The physicality of the game and be strong with the more and take it to the rim,” he said.
“I’ll make the right adjustments. I didn’t play my best game today. I’ll be ready next game.”
