With Justin Watts out due to a calf injury, the Alaska Aces will bring in Frank House as their import for the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup, a source closely monitoring the situation told Tiebreaker Times.
Watts strained his calf three days prior to the Aces’ meeting with the San Miguel Beermen last Sunday. He only watched from the sidelines, and his absence was a big blow.
Alaska lost that game, 83-109.
The North Carolina alum played in the Aces’ first two games and normed 31.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists.
Taking over Watts’ place is the 25-year-old House, a product of NCAA Division 1 school Ball State University and is coming off a stint with Landstede Zwolle in the Netherlands.
House’ career is unique in a way. After playing four years of college ball, he signed with the Chicago Bears of the NFL as an undrafted free agent on May 11, 2017, but was waived days later.
The cager from Elkhart, Indiana then went to pro basketball shortly after and took his talents to the Netherlands, where he has been playing for Landstede Zwolle in the last two years.
House is now Alaska’s third import this conference. Branden Dawson was the initial choice until he exceeded the 6-foot-5 height limit among imports, paving the way for Watts’ arrival.
House will be reinforcing an Aces side in dire need of a win as they are currently 0-3 in the team standings.
House, who arrived Monday according also to the source, is expected to suit up for the Milkmen in their match versus the Meralco Bolts on Friday, October 4, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
