After the successful staging of the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship 2025, the Philippines has once again been entrusted with the privilege of hosting world-class volleyball.
FIVB President Fabio Azevedo, joined by Brazilian volleyball icon Leila Barros, officially announced that the Philippines has been awarded the hosting rights for the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2029.
The announcement was made just 30 minutes before the Italy–Bulgaria gold medal match at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Azevedo stressed that bringing the Women’s World Championship to the Philippines is not only about showcasing elite competition but also about highlighting the sport’s wider impact on communities and society.
“Hosting the Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2029 in the Philippines is an opportunity to again showcase not only the very best of volleyball, but also the positive impact our sport has on society. Volleyball is unique in its accessibility, inclusivity, and its ability to unite people from all backgrounds,” said Azevedo.
“That has been so profound here in the Philippines as the country hosts the Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2025, and we have no doubt that it will be the same for the 2029 edition. Together, we are taking another step towards doubling the Global Volleyball Movement from over 800 million to 1.6 billion people, ensuring an even brighter future for volleyball worldwide.”
Meanwhile, Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) and Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) President Ramon “Tats” Suzara expressed pride in the country’s achievement and vowed to apply all the lessons learned from hosting the men’s tournament to ensure the success of the 2029 women’s edition.
“We are extremely proud to be selected to host another FIVB World Championship. We have learned many things in hosting the Men’s World Championship in 2025, and we will surely do it even better for the Women’s World Championship in 2029,” said Suzara.
“We are determined to carry forward the momentum of the World Championship 2025 and channel it into something lasting for our athletes, our fans, and our nation. It is also an honor to see the sport that I love contribute meaningfully to my country’s sports and tourism agenda,” he added.
The long-time volleyball official expressed confidence that the Philippines will not only meet expectations but also exceed them, further cementing its place as a true home of world-class volleyball.
“The 2025 Championship has shown that the Philippines is ready to be a long-term home for world-class volleyball. I am confident that we will once again deliver a truly spectacular Championship,” Suzara affirmed.
Members of Alas Pilipinas Women, led by team captain Jia De Guzman and head coach Jorge Souza de Brito, were also present during the historic announcement.
