When Meralco drafted Aaron Black, the second-generation cager did not want any special privileges.
“I didn’t want a free ride to the league,” Aaron previously told Tiebreaker Times.
And head coach Norman did not want to afford him any, either, vowing that he will treat his son just like anyone else in the 15-man roster of the Bolts.
“We picked him because I think he can help us win games and a championship — not because he is my son,” Norman shared after taking Aaron as the 18th overall pick in the 2019 PBA Rookie Draft.
That means that Aaron cannot escape Meralco’s tradition of hazing rookies in their first season.
Since arriving in the PBA Bubble in Clark, Pampanga, Aaron has had to carry around a stuffed mermaid doll around campus.
Failure to do so? The punishment is 50 push-ups, according to Meralco’s official Facebook page.
Aaron made his PBA debut last October 12, finishing with six points and three assists in an 89-96 loss to Phoenix.
Based on his playing time, Aaron will clearly be treated like every Bolt by Coach Norman.
