Creamline didn’t just win a championship — it reasserted its place atop the Premier Volleyball League.
After a turbulent season and a grueling Finals duel, the Cool Smashers clawed their way past the Cignal Super Spikers in a nerve-wracking five-set battle, 25-23, 22-25, 25-16, 16-25, 15-11, to capture the All-Filipino Conference crown on Thursday night at a packed Smart Araneta Coliseum.
In front of a roaring crowd of 17,358, Creamline showed both its championship pedigree and its resilience, surviving swings of momentum that turned the match into a test of endurance, composure, and will.
The decisive moment came in the fifth set, where Tots Carlos took control of the biggest stage. With the score hanging in the balance, she delivered a crucial hit before capping her heroics with a championship-sealing block on Vanie Gandler — snuffing out Cignal’s final push and igniting Creamline’s celebration.
But the finish only told part of the story.
Cignal refused to fold easily, pushing the match to the limit behind the steady scoring of Gandler and Erika Santos. Even in the deciding frame, the Super Spikers surged ahead 8-6, threatening to force a winner-take-all Game 3 before Creamline steadied itself and answered with veteran poise.
Jema Galanza finally broke through the Cignal wall, while Jia de Guzman orchestrated key plays to swing momentum back to the Cool Smashers. A string of Cignal miscues allowed Creamline to regain control, and from there, it never looked back.
Pangs Panaga also delivered a crucial defensive stop on Gandler that helped set up the final push, as Creamline turned a tense finish into a defining statement of its dynasty.
De Guzman, who tallied 31 excellent sets, admitted the victory carried a heavy emotional weight.
“Lahat ng emotion ngayon, I can’t really describe it. We really worked for this — five sets talaga. Pinahirapan kami ng Cignal, pero tinuloy lang namin hanggang dulo,” she said.
Bernadette Pons anchored Creamline’s title run with a standout all-around performance, finishing with 22 points, 25 excellent digs, and 15 receptions. Carlos added 18 points, while Galanza and Panaga chipped in 12 and 10, respectively.
Libero Jen Nierva, celebrating her first championship with Creamline, described the moment as overwhelming after years away from the Finals stage.
Cignal, despite the defeat, pushed the league’s most decorated team to the edge. Gandler led all scorers with 26 points, while Santos added 21 and Tin Tiamzon contributed 14 in a valiant effort that kept the Super Spikers in contention until the final rally.
Statistically, Cignal had the edge in attacks, but Creamline capitalized better on errors and delivered when it mattered most. The team converted crucial points in the closing stretch while maintaining steadier execution under pressure.
In the end, Creamline’s experience, depth, and championship DNA proved decisive. The victory marked the Cool Smashers’ 11th PVL title and eighth All-Filipino crown, reinforcing their status as the league’s gold standard.
Cignal may have fallen short, but its fearless stand in the Finals signaled a rising contender ready to challenge the hierarchy.
For Creamline, however, the message was clear: the throne was never lost — only briefly unclaimed.
