Creamline’s championship run in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference did not follow a straight path—it was carved through familiar pain, repeated setbacks, and a series of rematches that demanded not just skill, but pure resilience.
For Jema Galanza, that’s what made this 11th championship even more meaningful, standing out above the previous 10 because of the difficult road they had to take and the redemption they finally completed.
“Para sakin ito ‘yung happiest and memorable na championship na napanalunan namin kasi ‘yung mga teams na natalo kami, naka-bawi kami ngayong conference,” said Galanza, who tallied 12 points, 19 excellent digs, and 16 excellent receptions in the title-clinching Game 2 win.
Indeed, it was a championship built on overcoming struggles all conference long.
The early stretch of the tournament already hinted at how unforgiving the road would be.
The Cool Smashers opened their campaign with a deflating loss to PLDT, a rough start that immediately put their rhythm and timing under scrutiny. Instead of spiraling, however, they regrouped and strung together a five-game winning streak, slowly rebuilding confidence after the early setback.
Just when they seemed to have found their footing, they were halted by a surging Akari team that exposed lapses in their system.
The setback deepened when they fell to Farm Fresh at a crucial stretch of the preliminaries. The loss came at a dangerous moment, tightening the standings and putting their qualification hopes in jeopardy.
Despite the pressure, Creamline managed to punch a ticket to the qualifying round by defeating Cignal, even while missing key players Jema Galanza and Bernadeth Pons. The win came at a pivotal moment, as they leaned on their depth and collective execution to survive and extend their campaign.
But the relief was short-lived.
Facing the same Super Spikers again in the qualifying round, the Cool Smashers failed to sustain momentum and absorbed a crucial loss that sent them back down to the play-in stage.
That setback, however, became the turning point.
Falling to the play-in stage did not break Creamline—it reset them. From that point on, what followed was no longer just a survival run, but a full-blown revenge tour. Every opponent ahead carried a memory of a previous loss, a missed opportunity, or a result that once went against them.
And this time, the Cool Smashers made sure those chapters were rewritten.
Creamline first claimed revenge on the Chargers, eliminating them in the final play-in stage to reach the semifinals, where they dispatched the High Speed Hitters to officially reignite their title push.
Though they once again fell to Cignal, the Cool Smashers bounced back by taking down the Foxies in a virtual knockout match for the last seat in the championship round, setting the stage for their final redemption arc.
In the Finals, Creamline finally met the Super Spikers again—their biggest obstacle all conference long.
This time, there was no escape, no collapse, and no repeat of past heartbreak. The Cool Smashers delivered a sweep to capture the All-Filipino Conference title, sealing the run with their biggest revenge yet.
“I mean, bago kami nakapasok talaga sa finals, talagang dinaan namin lahat nung tumalo sa amin. And alam mo, ‘yun pa lang parang nakaka-proud na. And na-prove din namin sa self namin na kaya talaga namin na mag-champion basta sama-sama kami.”
Beyond the championship, Galanza also reflected on her personal battle with injuries.
The former league MVP entered the tournament coming off a long layoff from a career-threatening injury, gradually working her way back into form during the preliminaries. But just as she was regaining rhythm, a knee injury threatened to derail her comeback, forcing her to miss the last two preliminary games and key matches in the qualifying round.
“Yung injury kasi, well, di naman natin inaasahan yun eh. Parang buong off-season naman nag-prepare ka nang maayos. ‘’Yung nagpa-condition ka, tapos magugulat ka, or hindi mo ina-expect talaga na magkakaroon ng gano’n,” said Galanza.
“Pero, ‘yun nga, sabi ko nga, kahit nawala ako, di naman na-feel ng team na may kulang eh kasi lahat talaga nag-contribute sa team. So, thankful lang ako na meron akong coaches and teammates na umiintindi din.”
Galanza closed her championship story with gratitude, emphasizing how the team stayed together through injuries, absences, and constant adjustments.
“Sabi ko, sobrang pasasalamat talaga sa mga teammates ko, coaches kasi, alam mo, may mga times, may mga games na si coach eh nawala, ako nawala. I mean, alam mo yun, hindi kami nakukompleto sa ibang games. Pero, nagpe-perform sila, binibigay nila yung best nila.”
