Days after the Cool Smashers’ opening loss at the hands of Petro Gazz last Sunday, Creamline decided to part ways with newly-acquired head coach Li Huanning.
According to assistant coach Ed Ortega – who takes over coaching duties for Creamline in the meantime – management is dissatisfied with the Huanning’s system. He cited that they are looking for a more “suitable” coaching style.
“Actually, sinabihan ako ng management to take over the training and the game,” said Ortega, who will call the shots in lieu of the Chinese coach in Creamline’s outing for the rest of the week. “They are trying to find a suitable program for the team.
“Sad to say, Creamline and coach Li kailangan talaga mag-part ways.”
The sudden change at the helm had an immediate impact for the Cool Smashers. Their first game without Li, against the veteran-laden Pacific Town-Army, concluded with the team on the high side.
Moreover, Michele Gumabao – whom erstwhile-coach Li benched in their previous loss, causing a huge uproar from the fans – made a statement this game. She finished as the top scorer with 13 markers, leading the way for Creamline’s breakthrough win.
As it stands, Creamline are still on the lookout for their next coach.
When asked who will replace the Chinese strategist, coach Ortega noted that the management has been tight-lipped since the recent development.
However, they did not deny the idea of former head coach Tai Bundit being the replacement.
“Sinabihan lang ako ng management na may head coach na pero hindi nila sinasabi kung sino,” he confessed.
“Wala talaga akong idea so ngayon, ako pa rin bahala sa trainings.”
