There were fears surrounding Christian Standhardinger’s availability for the 2018 FIBA 3X3 World Cup.
Just days before the tournament, the 6-foot-8 Filipino-German has been sitting out the last two games of the San Miguel Beermen. He disclosed that there was fluid building in his knee that was causing discomfort whenever he trains.
Wednesday evening, Standhardinger disclosed that he couldn’t guarantee if he could make it to the World Cup, set to take place on June 8 at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.
But Gilas Pilipinas team manager Butch Antonio allayed the concerns, saying that Standhardinger has already practiced with Troy Rosario, Roger Pogoy, and Stanley Pringle on Thursday afternoon.
“Yes, he will be playing. Our line up is intact,” Antonio said during the FIBA 3X3 World Cup press conference, Thursday evening.
“They had practice this afternoon. We’re good to go.”
With this, the Philippines men’s team will have a good shot against the top 3×3 squads of the world. Last year, the country finished in 11th place in the 20-nation meet held in Nantes, France.
