Canino, Provido, Malaluan join Alas Women camp

Alas Pilipinas Women received a significant boost as De La Salle University standouts Angel Canino, Alleiah Malaluan, and Amie Provido joined their second training session with the national team earlier today.

The trio recently came off a brief break following their campaign in the UAAP Season 87 Women’s Volleyball Finals, where the Lady Spikers were swept by National University.

Despite the short rest, Canino, Malaluan, and Provido have already begun training with the national squad as early as yesterday.

“Yes, they attended. Angel Canino, Amiee Provido, and Alleiah Malaluan have been with us since yesterday. All good — we’re on the way to getting better,” said Alas Pilipinas Women head coach Jorge Souza de Brito in a text message to Tiebreaker Times.

Their arrival comes at a crucial time, as the national team intensifies its preparations for two major tournaments: the 2025 AVC Women’s Nations Cup, set from June 7 to 14, and the VTV International Cup, scheduled from June 28 to July 5 — both taking place in Vietnam.

With the Lady Spikers trio now in the fold, only Shevana Laput (La Salle), Alyssa Solomon (National University), and Brooke Van Sickle (Petro Gazz) have yet to report for training.

Returning members of the squad currently in practice include Jia De Guzman, Dawn Catindig, Dell Palomata, Jennifer Nierva, Eya Laure, Julia Coronel, Vanie Gandler, Mars Alba, Thea Gagate, Bella Belen, and Tia Andaya.

Also part of the training pool are veterans Maddie Madayag, Jeanette Panaga, MJ Phillips, and Justine Jazareno, along with rising collegiate standouts Shaina Natura, Clarisse Lorresco, and Lams Lamina.

Meanwhile, the quartet of Tots Carlos, Chai Troncoso, Eli Soyud, and Faith Nisperos has opted out of the training pool due to personal reasons.
