Brooke Van Sickle, Alyssa Solomon to join Alas Women after breaks


Petro Gazz ace Brooke Van Sickle and National University star Alyssa Solomon are set to join Alas Pilipinas’ preparations soon following their respective breaks.

Alas Pilipinas head coach Jorge Souza de Brito told Tiebreaker Times that he anticipates Van Sickle and Solomon to join the squad’s build-up for the upcoming national team window as soon as their respective recovery and rest periods are over.

“Yes, [they are expected to join training]. There are still a few guys on their breaks after the UAAP and the AVC. Both [Van Sickle and Solomon] are still on their breaks,” said the Brazilian coach in a text message.

Solomon is coming off a demanding final year with National University, where she played a key role in leading the Lady Bulldogs to back-to-back UAAP championships, sweeping La Salle in the Season 87 Women’s Volleyball Tournament finale.

The 6-foot-2 opposite spiker visited practice last week along with NU teammates Bella Belen, Lams Lamina, Vange Alinsug, and Arah Panique, plus La Salle’s Alleiah Malaluan.

Of the five Lady Bulldogs invited, only Belen and Lamina were present in today’s session.

Meanwhile, the reigning Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference MVP, who starred in the 2025 AVC Women’s Champions League last month and helped propel the Angels to a quarterfinal finish, is still out of the country.

Recent participants in training include pros Jia De Guzman, Maddie Madayag, Jeanette Panaga, MJ Phillips, Dell Palomata, Jennifer Nierva, Justine Jazareno, Fifi Sharma, Tia Andaya, and UAAP standouts Shaina Natura, Clarisse Lorresco, Belen, and Lamina.

Eya Laure, Mars Alba, Julia Coronel, Dawn Catindig, Vanie Gandler, and Thea Gagate, meanwhile, were among the early attendees.

Also sidelined for now are La Salle’s quartet of Angel Canino, Shevana Laput, Amie Provido, and Malaluan, who are also enjoying a well-deserved break after a silver-medal finish in the UAAP.

De Brito said he has limited details about the Lady Spikers but remains hopeful they will be able to join the team’s upcoming training sessions soon.

Alas Pilipinas will first compete in the AVC Women’s Nations Cup, scheduled from June 7 to 14 in Hanoi, Vietnam. The national team is then set to participate in the Southeast Asian V.League, taking place from late July to early August.
