Alas Pilipinas will compete in the 2025 AVC Volleyball Nations Cup as both the women’s and men’s national teams set their sights on upcoming continental tournaments that will shape the country’s standing in Asia.
The women’s team, which captured bronze in last year’s edition, has been drawn into a daunting Pool B in the AVC Women’s Volleyball Nations Cup, happening from June 7 to 14 at the Đông Anh Gymnasium in Hanoi, Vietnam.
World No. 52 Philippines will square off against tournament powerhouse and last year’s silver medalist Kazakhstan (No. 31), along with Indonesia (No. 54), Iran (No. 57), and debutants Mongolia and New Zealand.
Before that, the national squad will fine-tune its form in the 2025 VTV International Volleyball Cup, set for June 28 to July 5, also in Vietnam.
Led by Brazilian tactician Jorge Souza de Brito, Alas Women is undergoing intensive preparations with a dynamic lineup that fuses youth and experience.
Co-captains Jia De Guzman and Dawn Catindig spearhead the charge, anchoring a team that includes a promising mix of rising stars and battle-hardened veterans.
Meanwhile, Pool A features host Vietnam, Chinese Taipei, India, Australia, and Hong Kong.
On the men’s side, the Filipinos will take part in the 2025 AVC Men’s Volleyball Nations Cup from June 17 to 24 in Manama, Bahrain.
Drawn into Pool C, the Philippines (No. 56) will go head-to-head with No. 45 Chinese Taipei and No. 46 Pakistan.
The men’s squad is fresh from its stint in the AVC Champions League in Japan, where the team also held a high-level training camp.
National team coach Sergio Veloso is currently leading the integration of emerging talent into the fold, including UAAP MVPs Kennedy Batas and Josh Ybañez.
This AVC campaign also plays a critical role in the men’s build-up for the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship 2025, which the country is hosting.
Pool A in the men’s competition features host Bahrain, Indonesia, and Thailand; Pool B includes Qatar, Australia, and Kazakhstan; while Pool D comprises South Korea, Vietnam, and New Zealand.
The champions of both AVC Nations Cups will earn automatic qualification to the 2026 Asian Volleyball Championship, making every match count for the Philippines’ volleyball future.
