Another Filipino is set to showcase his wares in the Korean Basketball League.
Justin Gutang is set to play for one season with Changwon LG. The official signing will take place on Wednesday.
Though technically under the radar, the 6-foot-4 winger is one of the top young prospects in the game today.
After forgoing his final year with College of Saint Benilde, Gutang, 24, played for Nueva Ecija during the 2021 Chooks-to-Go MPBL Invitationals, averaging 9.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game.
Gutang then transfered to San Juan-Go for Gold.
During the first pro season of Filbasket, Gutang averaged 14.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 4.5 assists, winning tournament MVP honors.
He is currently still playing for San Juan in the OkBet-MPBL.
During his collegiate career, Gutang averaged 12.4 points, 6.91 rebounds, 4.26 assists, and 1.14 steals in 35 games played.
Sakers officials were able to see Gutang play, watching Game Two of the Filbasket finals. A source added that both Gutang and Rhenz Abando were the two players they wanted.
Korean scout Rico Lee facilitated the deal with the Sakers.
Changwon LG is coming off a seventh-place finish last season, finishing with a 24-30 slate.
