Bea De Leon dabbles in commentating as she awaits pro decision

Just two weeks ago, Bea De Leon hoisted the UAAP Season 81 Women’s Volleyball championship trophy and was named the Finals MVP for the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles.

Wednesday evening, she started her post-Ateneo career.

Though still at the Filoil Flying V Centre, the 5-foot-11 middle blocker was not on the Taraflex. Instead, she was calling a PVL match between the BanKo Perlas Spikers and the Petro Gazz Angels.

Apparently, the two-time UAAP champion has yet to sign with a club team after her UAAP stint. And so, when she was asked to grace the broadcast booth, she did not hesitate to say yes.

“Club team? Wala pa. Wala pa naman,” the 22-year-old disclosed.

“Thankfully ABS-CBN got me to be a regular for this conference. So hopefully, I’m looking into it,” she added.

“I’ll see first if it’s really for me or not, but it’s good for me to try new things.”

Surprisingly, De Leon is no amateur when it comes to being a commentator. In fact, she has been doing it for a while now, as she made her debut in last year’s Reinforced Conference of the PVL.

Given this, De Leon revealed that she’ll look for a change in scenery from time to time for a break from volleyball.

As she put it, “I’m really trying to look for that also para hindi naman volleyball lang ‘yung nagagawa ko.”

But when asked if her career hangs in the balance – and if she has to pick between the two distinct professions – De Leon confessed that she would rather be a volleyball player. It is, after all, where she finds more comfort.

“I think I’d rather play because this is a very structured job and you know, siyempre sa volleyball, kailangan real-time siya. It’s definitely not my comfort zone,” she admitted.

“I’d rather play, but like what I said, I’m just really open trying new things.”

De Leon has yet to receive her next assignment as an analyst. Still, fans can rest assured that this won’t be the last time.
