WATCH: Arwind Santos, Leo Austria lead San Miguel ‘We Are The World’ ensemble


The San Miguel Beermen made their own way to express gratitude to the people who have been stepping up in the fight against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

Arwind Santos on Monday uploaded a video on Instagram, where he and his teammates covered the song “We Are The World”, which is dedicated to all the frontliners serving in this crisis.

The 2013 PBA Most Valuable Player first opened the video by expressing thanks before the SMB players and coaches — and even some of their kids — sang the hit sung by various legendary artists.

“Gusto ko po munang pasalamatan ang ating mga dakilang bayani na talaga naman pong nagbibigay ng panahon, pagod, hirap, at oras para matugunan po ang pangangailangan ng ating bansa at ng ating mga kababayan,” Santos said.

“Uunahin ko po muna ang ating mga doctors, ang ating mga nurses, ang ating mga frontliners, at ang ating mga military, ang ating mga pulis, security guard, janitor, at siyempre ang ating mga butihing public servant na talaga namang binibigay din ang lahat para maibigay po ang pangangailangan ng ating mga kababayan at siyempre para pagtulungan din po kung paano sugpuin ang coronavirus,” Santos continued.

“Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat, saludo po kami. Talagang mabuhay po kayo.”

Santos also thanked the San Miguel Corporation for extending a helping hand to those in need during this crisis — SMC has been at the forefront of the relief efforts by the private sector.

“At siyempre, nagpapasalamat din po ako sa ating San Miguel Corporation na talagang nagmamalasakit at tumutulong din po sa ating mga kababayang Pilipino,” the decorated veteran said.

Santos capped off his message by reminding the Filipinos to unite and pray amidst these trying times.

“Huwag po nating kalimutang magdasal at panatilihin lang po nating magkaisa at sumunod sa ating gobyerno. Ingat po kayo. God bless,” the nine-time PBA champion said.

Part of the ensemble were head coach Leo Austria, Bacon Austria, June Mar Fajardo, Von Pessumal, Mo Tautuaa, Chris Ross, Alex Cabagnot, Matt Ganuelas-Rosser, Billy Mamaril, Marcio Lassiter, Gelo Alolino, Daniel De Guzman, Paul Zamar, Ato Agustin, Russel Escoto, Louie Vigil, and Bambam Gamalinda.

Last week, LA Tenorio led a bunch of PBA stars in singing Michael Jackson’s Heal The World, which they dedicated to those who have been in the frontline of the battle against the virus.

This idea came from the IG video made by Hollywood star Gal Gadot. In her video, she and fellow celebrities such as Lynda Carter, Jimmy Fallon, and Will Ferrell sang Imagine by John Lennon.
