Gilas Pilipinas ended its Window 2 campaign in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers winless after suffering a brutal beatdown at the hands of Australia, 93-66, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday night.
With many expecting a close bout after that tight affair against New Zealand the last time out, Gilas instead received a harsh reminder how different the Boomers are after collapsing in the second half that wasted their solid start.
The Filipino dribblers managed to keep in step with the defending two-time FIBA Asia Cup champions and even trailed by just five at the break, but the visitors found their touch in the third canto and suddenly broke away.
They’d never recover since, ultimately falling to their second loss in a row to drop to 2-2 as the Aussies remained perfect in Group A with a 4-0 record.
