Jerwin Ancajas was unable to take back his International Boxing Federation Super Flyweight against Fernando Martinez in their rematch on Sunday (Manila time) at Dignity Health Sports Park in California, USA.
Martinez pulled off a unanimous decision win scoring 119-109, and 118-110 from the two judges as he dominated the second half of the bout.
Ancajas went out firing in the first two rounds of the match as he was landing the more clean shots. However, it was still a neck-and-neck affair until the half of the game.
Come round six, Martinez started to get aggressive, getting one of his many one-sided rounds as the former Filipino champion was starting to get tired.
A cut on Ancajas’ forehead opened right at the 44-second of the seventh canto as he was caught with an accidental headbutt. The former, though, was still able to finish strong as he was even able to connect a powerful right hook to the face of the Argentinian.
In the 10th frame, both fighters are starting to look gassed out. But fortunately for Martinez, he already established a decent lead going into the championship rounds as he cruised his way to victory.
Ancajas absorbed his second career loss, falling to a 33-2 win-loss record. Martinez meanwhile improved to 15-0.
The last time these two fighters fought was in February this year when it was the same story after Martinez snatched the belt from Ancajas with a unanimous decision victory.
