Alas Girls drop crucial four-setter to Peru in U17 Worlds

Alas Pilipinas Girls fought tooth and nail but ultimately fell short against Peru, 28-26, 22-25, 23-25, 20-25, on Tuesday morning (Manila time) in Pool B of the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U17 World Championship at Liceo Particular Mixto San Felipe.

The Philippines entered the match riding a two-game winning streak and looked every bit the part, grinding out a gutsy win in an extended opening set before failing to keep pace with Peru over the next three frames.

The defeat dropped Alas Pilipinas to a 2-2 record and fourth place in Pool B with six points.

Despite the setback, the young Filipinas remain on track for a spot in the Round of 16, with a win over Venezuela on Wednesday at 2 a.m. (Manila time) enough to keep their knockout-stage hopes alive.

After splitting the first two sets, Alas Pilipinas came roaring out of the gates in the third, racing to a commanding 15-5 lead and appearing poised to seize a 2-1 advantage.

Peru, however, turned the tide with a stunning fightback, closing the frame with a blistering 20-8 finishing run to completely flip the momentum.

The Peruvians carried that momentum into the fourth set, pulling away from the Filipinas to seal the victory.
