The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has officially cleared the Philippines from its compliance watchlist.
This announcement follows meticulous scrutiny and corrective actions undertaken by the Philippine National Anti-Doping Organization (PHI-NADO), as confirmed by WADA’s statement posted on its official website.
Emiliano Simonelli, WADA’s Chief Compliance Manager, conveyed the positive news to Dr. Alejandro Pineda, head of PHI-NADO, via email.
“I am pleased to confirm that in light of the latest developments, the Compliance Review Committee has decided to sign off the remaining pending critical corrective actions relating to testing and results management,” stated Simonelli.
He further emphasized that the compliance procedure has been closed, averting any potential filing before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Richard Bachmann, Chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), expressed heartfelt gratitude to WADA and PHI-NADO for their collaborative efforts in addressing the concerns.
Bachmann underscored the nation’s commitment to fostering a clean and fair sporting environment, free from any taint of doping.
“We would like to thank WADA for all the support to resolve all issues. The PSC in coordination with PHI-NADO will continue to make improvements and propose the proper legislation in compliance with the WADA Code 20.5.1 to avoid future issues,” Bachmann affirmed.
The clearance from WADA signifies a significant milestone for Philippine sports, reaffirming its dedication to upholding the highest standards of integrity and fair play.
With this hurdle overcome, the nation looks forward to focusing on furthering its athletic endeavors while maintaining a steadfast commitment to anti-doping principles.
