Vanie Gandler’s goal clear: ‘Win championship’ for Cignal

Cignal has been one of the hottest teams in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, and they show no signs of slowing down.

After sweeping the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles on Thursday, the Super Spikers improved their record to 5-2, sitting solo third in the standings behind the one-loss teams PLDT High Speed Hitters and Creamline Cool Smashers.

But nothing is guaranteed in this conference, where a new format keeps all 10 teams in contention for a shot at the championship after the preliminary round.

Cignal knows this all too well.

“We know that no one is safe, even though we started the conference strongly. We know that we’re not safe because everyone has wins, everyone has losses. And now is not the time for us to relax,” said Cignal ace Vanie Gandler after their 25-18, 25-23, 25-22 win over ZUS Coffee.

After the preliminary round, the top four teams advance to the qualifying round, where two teams will move on to the semifinals while the losers wait for the Play-In victors.

The Play-In round serves as a lifeline for the fifth- to 10th-ranked teams, divided into two groups of three. The winners of each group will face the losers of the qualifying round.

Having missed the podium in the last three conferences, the Super Spikers are eager not just to return to that stage, but to reach the very top.

Gold remains the only missing piece in Cignal’s trophy collection, which already includes two silvers and five bronzes.

That’s why, for Gandler, the Super Spikers’ leading scorer this conference with a 16.7-point average, the goal is clear.

“My goal for myself is to be able to help Cignal win the championship. That’s it,” she declared.

Now in a strong position with five wins under their belt, the Super Spikers will push even harder as they aim to finally conquer the PVL summit.

Cignal will take a long break before returning to action on March 14 against Capital1, and will finish the preliminaries on March 21 against Creamline.
