UP calls for support as Nina Ytang grieves mother’s passing

University of the Philippines finds itself rallying behind one of its own as Nina Ytang, co-captain of the Fighting Maroons, grieves the loss of her beloved mother, Carmen.

Last Wednesday, the Fighting Maroons were gearing up for a match against the league-leading University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses.

However, Nina was notably absent from the court.

The absence wasn’t due to injury or tactical decisions; rather, Ytang had to attend to pressing personal matters.

Tragically, it was revealed that Nina’s mother had been battling illness, requiring Nina’s devoted attention.

However, on Wednesday evening, Mrs. Ytang passed away, leaving behind a void in the hearts of her family and loved ones.

In the wake of this heartbreaking loss, the UPWVT has issued a heartfelt statement, expressing solidarity with Nina and her family during this trying time.

The Fighting Maroons called upon the wider community to extend their support to the Ytang family, particularly in helping alleviate the financial burden brought about by medical expenses and funeral arrangements.

“The UPWVT is one with our sibling Niña Ytang and the entire family as we mourn the loss of her mother, Carmen Ytang. We’d also like to encourage the community to help out their family in the form of financial aid,” the team’s statement read.

As the UPWVT extends its arms in support, the broader community is urged to join hands in assisting the Ytang family during this challenging period.
