For the first 36 minutes of Blackwater’s match-up against Star, the Elite were able to keep pace the Hotshots, falling by just seven points heading into the final frame.
However, the injury bug the Elite have been experiencing this year showed up in the worst time.
“I made a move – a move I’ve made a thousand times – and I just stopped to pass the ball and I just felt a small pop, and I knew immediately something was wrong,” Blackwater import Travis Simpson recalled.
With 11:46 left in the game and Star holding a 75-68 lead, the 6-foot-4 American tried to drive from the top of the key but suddenly stopped and crumbled on the sidelines.
The 25-year old did not return to the game, finishing with 24 points on 8-for-17 shooting and eight rebounds. Blackwater, on the other hand, dropped its second game of the season 83-106.
“I liked our effort this game. I actually thought that we would win it,” the 25-year old American furthered.
“The game could’ve gone either way, but my injury kind of hurt the team.”
The native of Douglas, Georgia remains hopeful that his injury is just a minor one, planning to have it checked on Monday.
“Hopefully it’s just a strain and I can do better within the next couple of days. I’ll get it checked tomorrow.”
