Smart Omega secured its first win of MPL Philippines Season 15 with a dominant 2-0 sweep over Twisted Minds on Friday at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati.
Czedrick “SuperYoshi” Romero led the charge for Omega, earning MVP honors in both games. He showcased his versatility by picking Ruby in Game 1, finishing with a solid 0/1/8 KDA, and switching to Badang in Game 2.
There, his impressive 18 assists helped fuel a comeback victory despite recording six deaths and zero kills.
“Masaya siyempre, kumbaga starting pa lang naman kami sa winning namin. Ang gusto ko lang mangyari ay matuloy-tuloy yung panalo na yun. Tsaka yun, may laban pa bukas sa Aurora,” said SuperYoshi, expressing his hopes for Omega to maintain its momentum.
Twisted Minds experimented with different lineups, debuting an Angela-Alice combo in Game 2 and utilizing Salic “Hadjizy” Imam’s Chou in the mid-lane for the first time this season.
However, Omega spoiled head coach Bonn “BON CHAN” Ricaplaza’s strategies with strong performances across both matches.
In a post-game interview, Hadjizy shared that Twisted Minds had found success with those lineups during scrimmages but struggled to replicate that performance on stage.
“Ano lang yun eh, nung nagpa-practice kasi kami, tinatry namin ibalik yung ginagawa namin dati. Tapos ayun, naging effective naman siya sa practice, kinulang lang dito sa tournament,” Hadjizy explained.
Omega will look to hand Aurora its first loss of the season when they meet in the second game this Saturday at 5:00 PM, also at the Green Sun Hotel.
Meanwhile, Twisted Minds will continue its hunt for its first series win of the tournament as it faces AP.Bren in the opening match of the day.
