Creamline, Petro Gazz eye strong start; PLDT, Cignal Men brace for battle in AVC Champions League

Creamline, Petro Gazz, and PLDT are preparing to take different paths in the 2025 AVC Women’s Champions League after being drawn into separate groups, as announced on Wednesday.

The Cool Smashers headline Pool A, where they will face No. 31 Zhetysu VC of Kazakhstan and Al-Naser Club of Jordan.

Meanwhile, the Angels are in Pool B alongside No. 45 Taipower of Chinese Taipei and No. 60 Hip Hing Women’s Volleyball Team of Hong Kong.

Both Creamline and Petro Gazz secured seeded spots, joining China’s Baic Motor Volleyball Club and Thailand’s Nakhon Ratchasima Qmin VC as the tournament’s top-ranked squads.

The remaining teams, including PLDT, were drawn from separate pots.

The High Speed Hitters found themselves in a challenging Pool D, where they will face Nakhon Ratchasima Qmin VC — the competition’s second-highest-ranked team at No. 13 — along with No. 55 Queensland Pirates of Australia.

PLDT’s inclusion came after the Asian Volleyball Confederation granted the host nation an additional slot before the drawing of lots.

Completing the lineup, Pool C features Baic Motor Volleyball Club (No. 5), Vietnam’s VTV Binh Dien Long An (No. 32), and Iran’s Volleyball Club (No. 57).

The tournament format will see the top two teams from each group advance to the quarterfinals. Teams from Pool A will face qualifiers from Pool C, while Pool B’s top squads will meet those from Pool D.

The winners will move on to the semifinals, where the victors will battle for the championship.

Meanwhile, the losing semifinal teams will compete for the bronze medal.

On the other hand, Cignal, composed of the Alas Pilipinas national team, landed in a challenging Pool B in the AVC Men’s Champions League.

The Nationals will face a tall order, competing against Osaka Blueton of host Japan and Shanghai Bright Volleyball Club of China.

Pool A will be composed of Suntory Sunbirds (Japan), Queensland Pirates (Australia) and Aqtobe VC (Kazakhstan).

Iran’s Volleyball Club, Taichung Bank (Chinese Taipei), and Nakhon Ratchasima Qmin VC (Thailand) will comprise Pool C, while Al-Rayyan Sports Club (Qatar), Sports Training Center (Vietnam), and Bahrain’s Club (Bahrain) will compete Pool D.
