A guest team from Tibet will be pitting their skills against Philippine squad in the 3×3 Golden League Manila to be held from September 12 to 15.
Tournament commissioner Allan Caidic said the squad from Tibet will serve as a guest team after it turned heads when it defied all odds to win the Chengdu leg of the SINA 3×3 Golden League 2018, thereby qualifying for the SINA 3×3 Golden League National Finals in October 2018. As a guest team, Caidic added that the Tibet squad will not be eligible to win prizes.
Caidic said the victory by the squad of Tibet – roughly 2,000 kilometers away from Beijing – is a shining light of what the 3×3 Golden League Manila seeks to achieve, which is to help develop 3×3 basketball outside of Metro Manila and in the countryside.
“With one-hundred twenty-eight teams, it provides opportunities for other players to showcase their skills in 3×3 through this tournament. This is their chance to be noticed,” Caidic said.
Caidic is also a firm believer that the Philippines has the potential to do well in 3×3 basketball, with the format being competed in the ongoing 2018 Asian Games and the upcoming 2020 Olympics.
“With this tournament, we can already identify potential talents that we could tap for international competitions,” said Caidic.
Registration is still open for the 3×3 Golden League Manila to be held from September 12 to 14 at the Taft Food by the Court, and September 15 at the Vista Mall in Taguig City.
