When Pinas Sadya and NoWhereToGoButUP launched their collaborative jackets on November 15, the campaign quickly captured social media attention, fueled by the involvement of notable alumni.
Beyond its stylish photoshoot, the project carries a profound mission of cultural preservation and community support.
Pinas Sadya’s core mission revolves around partnerships with local weaving communities, including the Tboli tribe of South Cotabato, the Bagobo tribe of Digos, the Kabangkalan weavers of Negros, Saori deaf-mute weavers, and single mothers crafting beadworks in Pandi, Bulacan.
The jackets feature intricate, handwoven patterns that convey generational stories through a rich tapestry of Filipino textiles such as Binakol, Inabel, Kantarines, Hablon, Langkit, Piña fabric, and Callado embroidery.
NoWhereToGoButUP, the University of the Philippines’ sports advocacy group, focuses on promoting and supporting UP athletes while fostering school spirit and camaraderie.
This collaboration goes beyond fashion – it directly contributes to the development of UP’s athletic programs.
Proceeds from jacket sales will benefit 30 UP varsity teams, supporting nearly a thousand athletes competing in UAAP events by providing essential resources for training, equipment, and logistics.
Each jacket is more than just a fashion statement; it represents a meaningful investment in preserving Filipino artisan traditions and empowering student-athletes.
With every purchase, buyers contribute to the preservation of cultural heritage and the pursuit of athletic excellence.
