Thailand could possibly host the planned bubble for the resumption of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.
Indonesia Men’s Basketball Team manager Farez Tamrella reported the possibility to BolaSkor.com
“If the information I received [is correct], it is likely that [it is in] Thailand [where we] will play,” he was quoted as saying.
“But it is not official yet.”
Thailand and Indonesia are in Group A of the Asia Cup Qualifiers, together with the Philippines and South Korea.
Gilas Pilipinas was set to face the Thais back in the first window last February, but the game was postponed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
As a result, the Filipino dribblers only had one assignment in that window. They drubbed the Indonesians, 100-70, in Jakarta.
Currently, the South Koreans are on top of the group with a 2-0 win-loss card, followed by Gilas with a 1-0 slate.
Thailand is in third with a 0-1 record, while Indonesia ranks last, having failed to win both of its games in the opening window.
FIBA last week announced that it will resume all its continental cups through bubble set-ups in countries yet to be announced.
The setup is far from the usual home-and-away format, and be used in the November 2020 and February 2021 windows.
Gilas is set to take on South Korea and Thailand in the November window, before taking on Indonesia and Korea again in February.
There is no schedule yet for Gilas’ postponed game versus the Thais, as well as the two other first window games pushed back due to the virus.
At present, Gilas is having trouble forming a team for November. Any PBA players in the pool will be in the league’s own bubble in Clark for the resumption of Season 45.
