Terrence Romeo takes caution with knee injury

Terrence Romeo is now focusing on healing up the soonest as he no longer wants to sit out for a significant amount of time yet again for San Miguel.

The 31-year-old guard deemed it best to sit out the remainder of their PBA Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup meeting with Meralco on Sunday so as to not aggravate the left knee injury he felt during the tail-end of the second quarter.

“Kausap ko ‘yung mga PTs namin, ang main goal is mawala nang mawala ‘yung swelling kasi nagkakaroon ng compensation sa ibang muscle,” he told reporters shortly after their 93-83 victory at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

“Kapag pinipilit ko ikilos, ilaro, may masakit, ‘yung ibang parts ng muscle ko ‘yung sumasakit and at the same time, na-aggravate yung injury ko,” he added.

“Kailangan ko mag-focus na mawala ‘yung swelling, full range of motion ako ulit, and then strengthening nang kaunti, then hopefully, makalaro ako agad.”

Romeo asked to be subbed out with only 22.2 seconds left before the break as he felt pain after stealing the ball away from Jansen Rios.

He was actually able to bring the ball past the center court, but it was evident that he was hurt.

The 10-year pro disclosed that he had already suffered a bone bruise during their season opener against NLEX last Wednesday. However, he did not expect it to act up after having taken a painkiller prior to the Bolts game.

“Ininuman ko siya ng Arcoxia before the game,” he said. “First quarter OK pa ‘ko, nakakagalaw pa ‘ko, takbo takbo. Tas nagulat ako nung sudden sprint ko, pagka-stop ko ng ano, biglang ang sakit. Tapos hindi ko na mailakad nang maayos.”

Romeo would never come back into the game, ending the night with nine points on 4-of-5 field goal shooting, a rebound, and a steal in 10 minutes.

“Sabi ko baka mamaya ‘pag pinilit ko, baka may ibang parts naman na mag-compensate o baka lalo lang siyang mabugbog,” he said.

San Miguel’s next game won’t be until November 25 against Converge in Tiaong, Quezon and he hopes to have fully recovered by that time as the former FEU star is keen on completing the conference and beyond with SMB.

“Hindi ko na lang pinilit kasi ayoko naman mag-miss nang maraming laro. Ayoko naman mawala nang mga important games namin. Mas priority ko ngayon na matapos ko ‘yung conference,” said Romeo.

“Ayoko ‘yung nakapaglaro ako, pinilit ko, tapos mamaya mag-cause pa na ma-out ako this conference. Ayoko na nang ganoon.”
