Tamayo, UAAP commissioner figure in crash during UP-FEU game

Being so close to the action is dangerous. Yes, acting as technical officials in sports events also has its risks.

On Tuesday, Carl Tamayo figured in a crash with UAAP Season 84 basketball commissioner Tonichi Pujante during a play in University of the Philippines’ second round clash against Far Eastern University.

With 16 seconds left in the first half, the 6-foot-8 rookie dove for a loose ball. However, he then collided with Pujante, who could not get out of the way as everything happened so fast.

Tamayo made sure to check on Pujante and apologize before returning to play. Medics quickly attended to Pujante as he was experiencing left ankle pain.

During the halftime break, Pujante was put in a wheelchair and sent to the infirmary to check his vitals and his ankle.

Ever the soldier, the league official powered through the pain, returning back to the table to work.

After all, the job is not yet done.
