National University will have a new head coach when the UAAP Season 88 Women’s Basketball Tournament tips off next month.
Aris Dimaunahan officially resigned as head coach of the Lady Bulldogs on July 31, a move confirmed by Ever Bilena President and CEO Dioceldo Sy — one of the team’s staunch supporters — in an interview with Tiebreaker Times on Tuesday.
“He will focus on men’s basketball with Blackwater,” Sy explained.
Dimaunahan took over the Lady Bulldogs program in UAAP Season 84 after Patrick Aquino shifted his full attention to Gilas Pilipinas Women.
Under Dimaunahan’s leadership, NU secured two 5-on-5 championships and one 3×3 title, successfully continuing the winning tradition built by Aquino.
Now, he will focus on his role as an assistant coach to Bossing head coach Jeff Cariaso in the PBA.
Stepping into the top spot is his longtime NU deputy, D.A. Olan, who has been promoted to head coach.
A product of the University of the Philippines Integrated School, Olan has been a mainstay in Blackwater’s coaching staff.
Olan now inherits a Lady Bulldogs squad that will be led by seniors Tin Cayabyab, Angel Surada, and Ann Pingol as they aim to extend NU’s dominance in the UAAP.
