Christian Standhardinger continues to make a strong case for the 2023 PBA Governors’ Cup Best Player of the Conference (BPC) award.
In the latest statistics released by the league after the semifinals, the Barangay Ginebra big man is still on top of the statistical points (SPs) race heading into their best-of-seven Finals bout versus TNT with 44.2 SPs.
He averaged 23.5 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 5.8 assists as his all-around play helped the Kings reach the season-ending finals for the fifth time since 2016.
Standhardinger widened his lead over CJ Perez, who had 38.2 SPs. He previously had 42.8 SPs to the latter’s 39.3 after the eliminations.
Perez normed 20.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.2 average and 1.7 steals, but affecting his chances was the fact that San Miguel Beer got eliminated by the Fil-German workhorse and Ginebra in the semis via sweep (0-3).
Two more Barangay stars are crowding out Standhardinger for the conference’s top individual award, namely Jamie Malonzo and Scottie Thompson.
Malonzo is at third with 34.7 SPs, followed by the reigning league MVP – who’s also the tournament’s reigning BPC – is at fifth with 34.3 SPs.
At No. 4 is Tropang Giga star gunner Roger Pogoy with 34.7 SPs.
Meanwhile, imports of the Finals protagonists in Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Justin Brownlee are 1-2 in the Best Import race.
Hollis-Jefferson is on top with 57.1 SPs built around solid numbers of 30.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 6.5 assists. Then Ginebra’s resident import is behind the former NBA cager with 52.5 SPs (27.3-10.5-6.9).
