Spikers Turf: D’Navigators cruise past Maverick, secure third straight win

D’Navigators hardly broke a sweat in dispatching Maverick in straight sets, 25-16, 25-18, 25-17 for their third consecutive victory in the 2024 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference, Wednesday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

With the win, the D’Navigators momentarily tied Criss Cross and Cignal – who will face Philippine Air Force later in the day – at the top spot.

The teams sport identical 3-0 records in the tournament organized by Sports Vision.

“Medyo nagpe-peak kami doon sa mga previous practices kasi talagang naghahanda kami. Kailangan lang may continuity ang ensayo namin pa lagi,” said head coach Boyet Delmoro after the win.

“Meron naman kaming mga practices, then after practice, mag-evaluate or tune-up game sa malalakas na teams,” he added.

Francis Saura continued to lead the D’Navigators, this time scoring 15 points on 10 attacks and five blocks.

Meanwhile, Jayvee Sumagaysay and Edward Camposano added 11 and 10 markers each in the victory.

JM Apolinario tossed 11 excellent sets to go along with two points and four excellent receptions. He spearheaded a balanced offensive strike that saw 10 players register at least a point in the quick outing.

It was a dominant showing for the D’Navigators, who edged the Hard Hitters in all categories.

They tallied a total of 42 attacks, nine blocks, and four aces, while the latter only had 28 attack points out of 100 attempts to go along with two kill blocks.

“Need pa namin bilisan saka more on blockings pa kasi malalakas sa opensa yung mga kalaban, lalo na yung Cignal at Criss Cross,” said Delmoro.

The D’Navigators will look to extend their unbeaten run against VNS-Nasty on Friday, 6:00 PM at the same venue.

On the other hand, Maverick dropped their third consecutive game to start the conference, falling to 0-3.

Kim Tan paced the Hard Hitters with nine points with six excellent receptions while team captain Razzel Palisoc chipped in eight markers.

Maverick will look to break its losing slump against Air Force on April 12, Friday, 6:00 PM, also in Ynares.
