Omega Esports dropped the hammer on Duane “Kelra” Pillas, fining the player a month worth of salary for his unprofessional actions, Thursday afternoon.
The 16-year-old found himself in hot water after throwing distateful comments towards Blacklist International members Johnmar “OhMyV33NUS” Villaluna and Danerie “Wise” Del Rosario.
Kelra was also heard making sexist remarks towards Thai MLBB professional player Chaneery “Ramella” Ramella in a video clip from RRQ Hoshi’s Albert “Alberttt” Iskandar’s livestream.
“Smart, the sponsor of this team, is a staunch advocate and supporter of inclusivity and sports,” said Omega in a statement.
Aside from this, the rising star was also handed a two-week ban by the MPL-Philippines along with an undisclosed amount of fine.
The Smart-backed squad will also make sure that the 2021 MSC Most Valuable Player will undergo a gender sensitivity and personality development seminar along with the entire Omega squad.
“In coordination with Smart Omega’s management, Kelra will be required to attend gender sensitivity and personality-development workshops,” said Omega Esports.
“Apart from Kelra, we will ensure that all members go through the same program to foster a deeper understanding of inclusivity, and to reinforce respect and professionalism among our players and towards others,” the statement continued.
Kelra has since issued an apology to the Blacklist duo but still remained mum on the issue regarding the IDNS player.
“It is our responsibility to take care of our athletes by making sure that we provide a holistic development plan for them,” Omega expressed.
“Our management, coaches, and teammates will not take this matter lightly and will make sure that he learns from this experience and comes back a better person.”
