Alohi Robins-Hardy has been a force to be reckoned with in the 2019 PSL All-Filipino Conference.
The Fil-Hawaiian setter has been a double-double machine for Cignal. Besides dishing out sets for the likes of Rachel Daquis, Mylene Paat, and Jovelyn Gonzaga, the 6-foot-2 playmaker has also proven that she can punish the opposition with hard-hitting spikes and quick-witted dumps.
But underneath her stellar performances in the early stage of the tourney, Robins-Hardy nursed some pain on her right shoulder.
When asked about it, the 23-year-old disclosed: “I don’t know. It just flared up. Using it a little bit too much, or I wasn’t used to using it as much.”
She then continued, saying, “Over-usage sometimes and then it just hurts.
“Sometimes, I sleep on it wrong so it flares up that way.”
The product of BYU also confided that when Cignal head coach Edgar Barroga decided to utilize her as an opposite hitter, the nagging shoulder was already there.
Still, for the sake of the team, Robins-Hardy willed through the pain. And on Thursday, she churned out a 15-point, 24-set double-double performance to help the HD Spikers scale the Santiago siblings-led Foton.
“I tough it out,” Robins-Hardy said. “Today, I was fine. I didn’t expect to hit as much, but what happened was [when] coach used me as a spiker, I was ready.
“I’m always ready to go out and do whatever I need for the team, and to get that win.”
Now that she’s starting to feel better, Robins-Hardy is thrilled to work more and focus on building more cohesive chemistry with her teammates
“I’m excited to get that chemistry even more and bond even more with the girls. Every practice is amazing.”
