SANTA ROSA — Coming off a tough loss to Petro Gazz, Akari bounced back and vented its ire on sister team Nxled, 25-17, 25-19, 25-20, for its second win in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, Saturday at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex here.
The Chargers set the tone early, leaning on the middle blocker duo of Fifi Sharma and Ced Domingo en route to a 2-3 record.
The win was a recovery from their tough straight-set loss to the Angels last Saturday.
“Naging effective yung preparation namin, especially pinukpok ko talaga yung middles doon sa blockings,” said Akari head coach Raffy Mosuela.
Sharma and Domingo combined for eight of the Chargers’ eight blocks in the one-hour, 22-minute contest. The former finished with 13 points, while the latter added 12 markers to lead the victory.
Grethcel Soltones tallied 10 points, including three service aces, to go along with eight excellent receptions.
Meanwhile, Dindin Santiago-Manabat and Faith Nisperos chipped in eight markers each.
“Ang instruction ko doon sa setter namin, kay Mich, once na good pass is activate niya lagi yung middle. Blocking naging effective nga kasi yung outside hitter nila, yung go to guy nila, yun ang kailangan namin ma-eliminate. Okay naman, nangyari naman,” said Mosuela.
Akari will go up against the unbeaten Choco Mucho on Saturday, 6:00 PM at the Ynares Center in Antipolo
On the other hand, Lycha Ebon led the way for Nxled with 11 points on nine attacks and two aces.
May Luna chipped in eight points and five excellent receptions off the bench as their team slid to 1-4.
Ivy Lacsina, who had 17 points in their win over Galeries Tower last Tuesday, was held to just two points and eight excellent receptions.
Nxled looks to bounce back against Chery Tiggo on March 26, 4:00 PM at the Philsports Arena.
